ikeas website has been renamed to ‘pet adoption sites’, in a move that appears to be a response to a petition.
The change comes after a number of pet adoption websites have been shut down by the UK Government and have been ordered to close.
A petition calling for the removal of the Ikea website and a petition to have the Ikeas UK website closed has already gathered over 50,000 signatures.
Ikeas UK has been shuttered in the UK for several years, following a series of court decisions that led to its closure.
It is not clear how long the petition has been active or how many signatures it has gathered.
The website has now been renamed ‘pet adoptions’ and has been removed from the website.
The petition also calls on the Government to “take swift action to bring Ikea UK to an end”.
The UK Government is yet to comment on the petition.
A spokesperson for Ikeas said: “The Ikea brand is known for its commitment to animals, and our commitment to the health of the environment.
The change to our website will be in the hands of the UK government and they will decide what they will do with it once they have received the petitions.”
The spokesperson added that Ikeas website will remain open to customers and visitors to the UK.
