By Amy ChuaA couple of months ago, the Google Maps app was supposed to be an extension of the Google Home device.
In that first version, you could navigate around your city and find interesting information, but in the final version, Google said it was planning to make things more accessible by using a virtual reality headset called Google Glass.
It wasn’t clear if Google would continue to support the Google Glass app after that announcement, but now the GoogleMaps app is available on the Play Store.
It’s not quite a complete replacement for Google Home or Google Maps, but it does give you more options to explore and discover the information you need.
Here’s how to get started with Google Maps on Android and iOS.
Search for “Google Maps” or “Google Home” or a similar search term.
Tap on the “Search” button at the top of the screen.
Select “Google” from the list of search terms.
You should see a pop-up window asking if you want to use the Google app or Google Home.
Select the Google App to begin the navigation.
On your way to your destination, tap the blue “Go” button.
If you don’t see a green “Go!” button on your screen, you can tap the Google icon at the bottom of the page.
In the search results pane, tap on “My location” and then tap on the Google map icon.
You will be taken to a list of locations in your Google Maps account, and you can add more by tapping the blue “+” sign next to the location you want.
If your location is in the top right corner of your screen and your phone is positioned above the map, tap it.
If not, tap and hold on the map until it is centered.
If you need to add a location, tap “Add” and make sure your Google account is set to “Primary” and that your location has a valid phone number.
If the Google account does not have a phone number, the map will not display a phone icon.
You can also tap on a location and see how close it is to your current location.
Tap the green “Add Location” button and it will display a “Go!” icon next to your location.
On the top left of the map window, you will see a check mark next to a place.
Tap that and you will be transported to that location.
You must be at that location to add it to the map.
Tap and hold a place to add that place to the list.
You are now at your current spot, but if you are moving, tap another location and then go to that same spot to add another location.
It will be highlighted as “added.”
The only place that does not appear on the list is your current position.
The other locations are hidden behind the check mark.
The “Go!?” icon next the location will appear when you add another place.
If there are multiple places, you may want to tap on each place and then swipe down to reveal its name.
Tap a new place and the green checkmark on the top-right corner of the list will be removed.
Tap another place to see the location it will be added to. 15.
Tap an area to add more places.
Tap to add new points.
Points are points that appear on a map that you tap on.
You need to know how to draw a circle to get a map to show all the points.
If an area is full of points, you won’t be able to see all of them.
The green circle icon will appear on your map to indicate all of the points you can see.
You also have the ability to change the color of the circle.
The circles will change to a color that matches your current environment.
You don’t need to draw circles if you dont want to. 17.
Tap any point on the grid to add points to the circle and add points that have a different color.
If more than one point is added to the same circle, only the circles that contain the points that you want will show.
You do not need to select multiple points to add them to a circle.
You may need to change some of the colors on your circle to match the colors of the area.
Tap again on a point on your grid to remove it. 19.
Tap over to the right-hand side of the circles to add and remove points.
You cannot remove a point from the circle without also removing a point next to it.
Points will remain on the circle until you tap “Done.”
You can remove points at any time by tapping on them again.
If a point is not removed, the circles will appear red and the point will be marked as removed from the map and removed from your list of points. 20.
